Introduction by
former club Secretary - Craig Burkhardt
The Central Highlands
Model Aero Club was formed to accomodate the requirements of radio
controlled model aeroplane and helicopter enthusiasts in the Emerald
and surrounding district. Incorporated in July 2007 the club had
been running informally for a number of years prior and also included
members located in Blackwater as a sub-branch that has now established
their own club formally.
In February 2008,
the Emerald Shire Council (now Central Highlands Regional Council)
granted the club a Trustee Permit to use an area of approx. 7.1ha
to cnduct flying in a safe and controlled environment without
disruption to other members of the public. This was provided on
Lot 41 of CP DSN878 which has a primary use of a quarry and is
actively used for this purpose also. Lot 41 is also used for the
Misquito Creek Motocross track. The model airstrip at the designated
area is compliant with regulatory requirements and registered
through the National Association.
Moving forward
to 2022, the club is still going strong and is looking forward
to improving its facilities to continue to provide
a safe location for model aircraft enthusiasts to enjoy their
hobby.
